Common name:Century Plant, Maguey
Botanical name:Agave americana

Succulent that grows quickly to10' x 13'. Wide, grey leaves have stiff terminal spines and recurved teeth on margins. Prefers full sun and well-drained situations. Prone to agave snout weevil which will eat the roots and heart of the plant. Like all agaves, after blooming, it will die but will send up new pups from around the base. Some people are allergic to the sap. This is a large agave, be sure to have space.

Tall, multi-stemmed plants that grow quickly and are more tolerant of regular watering than many cacti. Large, fragrant, white flowers occur at night in the summer followed by large, red fruit that is relished by birds and wildlife.

Evergreen cactus grows slowly to 10' x 10'. Stems are light green, no spines. Showy pink flowers appear late spring to summer. Columnar form makes a great sculptural accent in the landscape. Accepts reflected sun. Very low water use. Native to Baja California.

Evergreen shrub that maintains a tight rounded form without any pruning. It grows to 5' x 5' at a moderate pace. Blooms are lavender and provide signficant summer color, as do other lecophyllums.. Foliage is bright green. Accepts reflected sun. Attracts butterflies. Chihuahuan Desert native.

Evergreen tree grows quickly to 30' x 15'. Has drooping habit with medium green foliage. Flowers are fragrant creamy puffballs and appear in the spring. Needs deep well drained soil & some water to establish. Full sun. Suitable screen for narrow areas. Native to Australia.
